I went digging through my Amie Street library looking for a good jazz recommendation today in memory of Joe Zawinul, who passed into eternity yesterday, Sept 11 2007.
Copperlion is a group that I know Joe would have appreciated. Combining great jazz keyboard work with a variety of other musical styles and influences, this is jazz that makes you want to dance and sing. "Second First" ,from the new album Which Way Did I Go?, is a song that makes you just want to say "oh yeah!" out loud when it is over. Then you start the song again from the start.
In TVLand, the full jazz ensemble takes turns wowing you.. a brass section that is a standout, piano that is smooth and entrancing and sax that sings for you to follow along. This is jazz music that the afficianado and the jazz newbie will both love.
Beeblebrox is proof that there is more than corn in Indiana. Although the members of the group originated in Germany, they are currently based out of Bloomington, Indiana. A musical group that takes classic jazz forms and morphs and blends them with funk and world music is a must have in any jazz discography and will be a welcome listen for newbies to jazz as well. Long available on CDBaby and eMusic, this prolific set of musicians is now available on AmieStreet as well. Be sure to grab your towel and come along for the ride!
Here is a little jazz to set the mood for the upcoming weekend. Kobi Arad is a versatile jazz musician who does vocal as well as instrumental jazz. Some of his pieces are a potential cross over into the world of electronica and will make a good introduction to jazz for electronica fans who have not yet explored jazz. Ripples, from his album Compilation, is a good example of this. If you like the sound of his music, go check it out.. he currently has 7 different albums available on Amie Street.
you heard it hear first. if you like Helicopter Down's sound, they just recently released a new 4 song album that is still selling for free. Their previous album quickly rocketed to 30-40 cents per song, so grab this one before everyone else does...I found it a great fusion of jazz and electronica-- a mellow but intriguing listen.
