I am not usually a big fan of movie soundtracks, but this collage of middle eastern/north african music is a gem. The soundtrack for The Art of Flight by Nomadlands is a collection of 17 songs that range from Mellow Middle Eastern melodies to driving North African Drum beats. From the perspective of a one time middle eastern dancer, this entire sound track is completely danceable, with music that is appropriate for everything from classic Raks Sharki to more modern tribal blends.
Derek McCorkell sounds amazing USA born and bred in his album Country Collection, Vol 1. A classic, back to the roots country sound with a handful of songs with a rocking Honky Tonk Beat. He has a raw but easy to listen to voice and the songs are all strong and well written. Check out the samples, then go download it before he becomes "discovered".
The Supervinyls have managed to produce an album that is full of funky organ riffs, electronic melody and a rhythm track that does not let up. Their album Transmission 14 blasts off with the 54 second Intro- a song that is pure 70s funk , then continues on a rocket ride into the 2007s mixing more and more modern grooves with classic funk.
Eleanor L Vault is one of the classic things I most love about Amie Street. In the classic world of music distributed on plastic the odds that this group would even make an album, much less that I would chance across a copy of it to purchase are very small. Here is a group that is a side project for a few folks, not a full time job, but they are making wonderful enchanting ambient folk styled music. Ethereal is the best word to describe what they create. If you like the samples here, go download their latest album, Ghosts and Thieves.
Here is a little jazz to set the mood for the upcoming weekend. Kobi Arad is a versatile jazz musician who does vocal as well as instrumental jazz. Some of his pieces are a potential cross over into the world of electronica and will make a good introduction to jazz for electronica fans who have not yet explored jazz. Ripples, from his album Compilation, is a good example of this. If you like the sound of his music, go check it out.. he currently has 7 different albums available on Amie Street.
Here is a song from Tom Beaudreau that everyone should hear and hold close in their heart. As you make plans to party this weekend, remember there are soldiers out there dying every day. A Father's Prayer from his album All Mine, will go straight to your heart strings. With a voice that is part Johnny Cash and part Tom Wait, this is a song worth every listen and download it can get.
I am so excited about this Amie Street Discovery. I am shocked and surprised that the Adam Ezra Group has not gotten more coverage, and I am sure that will not last. Although classed as Folk Rock, as you can hear in this sample of Eddie Whistles from their album Crawl, there is a bit of funk mixed in with some of the songs. On the straight songs, he reminds me a bit of John Mellencamp or Don Henley. With the funk going on, he has an element of very early James Brown. This is good stuff.. go grab it before everyone else discovers how good it is!!
Tiffany Randol, the lead singer of Valeze, has also released some solo work. Her solo work is a bit softer than Valeze, but still has a great edge. Check out this sample of Kiss Me Kiss me, from Sammasati.
Here is a new rock ballad by Lee Rogers to get you through the week. Like a bit of Mellow Springsteen, Long Gone Days is a nice addition to Drawing Clocks. Give it a listen.
Greenland is not alone in their wishing. We all wish sex could be a little less complex. In this perfect Summer Indie Rock song, they bemoan the complexities of the dating interactions. With a great sound, It's so complex( I just want sex) is light and fun must have download. If you like this song, check out the rest of their album Call Message- it is a bit of what the Beach Boys might have sounded like if they were an Indie Rock Band.
